Dramione: Draco + Hermione

            The Untold Story

Draco glided through the air on his broom, watching the game from high above everyone else. Ariell and Ron seemed to be having a private battle of their own since they had both scored the majority of the points for their team. They were already a few minutes into it and there was still no sign of the snitch. Across the field he could see Harry floating, watching the air around him.

Gryffindor was up by ten but it had been a fight to get there. Both teams were doing really well and making it hard for their opponent to score. Draco watched as the quaffle was passed from team to team. He ducked as a bludger came soaring towards him with Blaise close behind.

He looked into the crowd and saw Hermione sitting with some of her Gryffindor friends. She looked happier than earlier but Draco still had the feeling that the news she had gotten from the headmaster was bad.

Below him he heard cheering and saw that Ron had managed to score another ten points for Gryffindor.

“Stupid Weasley”, he muttered. A few minutes later though he saw Ariell score again followed closely by another score from Pansy. The game was tied.

Suddenly the sky grew a lot darker. It was supposed to be sunny this morning but the weather at Hogwarts had a tendency to be a bit unpredictable. Draco felt a few raindrops come down from the sky before it became a complete downpour. Soon he was drenched and the visibility of the field had dropped to zero. There were dark clouds above him and the rain was relentless. He wasn’t even completely sure what was happening with the game below him because a thick fog had come over the field. He knew there was no chance for a quidditch game to be cut short but they would be out here forever with conditions like these. There was no way he or Harry would be able to see the snitch.

He flew around for a bit looking in every direction hoping he would at least hear the fluttering of its wings. He flew a little lower and was nearly pummeled by the other players. You couldn’t see them through the fog until they got really close to you, and at the speed that they were going, you wouldn’t want that.

He sighed in frustration as he circled the field. He was nearly thrown off his broom by another bludger that came flying his way. Luckily Blaise was good at his job and deflected the ball. The rain was still coming down hard and thunder boomed in the distance. Every minute it seemed to be getting louder and more frequent, and there was still no sign of the snitch. For a second it was quiet and then Draco heard it.

There was the sound of tiny fluttering wings: the snitch was close by. He couldn’t see it but suddenly the sound was drowned out by more thunder. Something darted across his face and Draco saw the snitch fluttering away quickly. He raced after it, barely managing to keep it in his sight. He reached out his hand, stretching as far as he could but the snitch was just too fast. Out of nowhere he saw Harry flying over fast from the other direction. Draco silently willed his broom to go faster but the snitch was flying through the air ahead of him, still out of his reach.

By now he had lost all sense of direction, and he wasn’t even sure if he was still on the playing field. He didn’t dare take his sight off of the snitch. He saw the golden ball drop down and he plummeted after it. He saw shapes below him and realized that he was right above the stands, about to crash into a bunch of people.

“Gahh.” He pulled up hard barely managing to stay above everyones head. He saw Harry fly above him and he took off after the snitch once again. It was a lot harder to catch this year. It was faster and more tricky, trying to get you to crash into things and fly off your broom.

He and Harry were side by side, barely managing to keep control at the speed they were flying at. The snitch was barely in front of them, darting form side to side. Suddenly they were chasing after it in circles, doing loops in the air. Draco had never had to do this much to catch a snitch before and he was grateful for all the extra practice he had done.

At every sharp turn he was glad he didn’t go flying off his broom and he struggled to keep control at such a high speed. He saw the snitch going for another loop but instead of following after it he dropped down below. He saw Harry follow the snitch and when it came back down Draco put his hand up in the air hoping his idea would work. It did.

The snitch zoomed right into his hand so fast that Draco was thrown back a bit. The black gloves he had on were fingerless and the edge of the snitch wing cut the end of his finger. He didn’t dare let go though, as the snitch was still struggling in his hand.

Harry zoomed past him, unable to come to a complete stop before he realized what had happened. Draco dived straight down, holding the snitch up in his hand. The rain was still coming down and the thunder continued to roll. Slowly people realized what had happened and he saw his teammates throw up their hands in victory. They rushed towards him and he heard Professor McGonagall blow her whistle, signaling that the game was over. Through the thunder Draco heard the announcer say that Slytherin had won, though he didn’t sound too happy about it.

The people in the stands went crazy, and Draco did a victory lap above his yelling housemates. He saw others looking annoyed and put out, annoyed that he was the one to catch the snitch.

Finally he went and landed on the ground, surrounded by his teammates giving many pats on the back. He felt like he would suffocate under all of them but he didn’t really care. He caught a glimpse of the Gryffindor team sulking off of the field, but they were quickly blocked by his own players again.

Between the thunder, the cheering people in the stands, and the teammates around him the sound was deafening. He had gotten so many knocks on the head he was pretty sure he would get a concussion. He didn’t care though, he was on top of the world.  *********

Hermione covered her ears as eight rows of Slytherins behind her screamed at the top of their lungs.

“Aww man”, Neville exclaimed beside her, and the Gryffindors left the field. “I can’t believe he didn’t get it.” Hermione said nothing as she watched what was happening on the field. She had been silent for the entire game, and holding her breath when she saw Harry and Draco go after the snitch. She had never even seen the little golden ball but she figured that the two weren’t doing loops in the air for no reason.

It had been an awkward time, watching them. She wanted her team to win and she supported Harry of course but at the same time she wanted to see Draco do well too. Harry was her best friend, but Draco was her boyfriend now.

‘Boyfriend.’ Even in her mind it sounded weird. It was a good weird, but still weird.

“Hey lets go”, Neville said taping her on the shoulder. She nodded and followed him out of the stands, trying to keep her umbrella covering them both. Most of the Gryffindors had already left, heading back for the common room. Once they were on the field Hermione paused.

“You can go on Neville, I have to speak with someone first”, she said already walking away.

“Okay” he called after her. “And give that scarf back, you wouldn’t want that still on when you come back to the common room.”

She nodded without turning around and walked over to the huddle of Slytherins in the middle of the field. They were all yelling and jumping around. She couldn’t even see Draco but she assumed he was somewhere in the middle of the group.

She stood outside of the huddle awkwardly for a minute before anyone even noticed she was there. Ariell caught sight of her and dragged Draco out of the center of the group, pushing him towards her. Hermione didn’t know much about the dark haired girl, but she seemed pretty okay with her best friend dating a Gryffindor. Well, more okay with it than the rest of his house anyway.

“To the common room”, the Slytherin yelled pointing back at the Hogwats building. The team started running over there.

“Hey”, Ariell said, smacking Draco on the arm. “Make it quick, okay?” She laughed and took off after her housemates.

Suddenly it was really quiet as the students left the field. Draco stood a little closer to her so that he was standing under her umbrella. Hermione breathed in his scent before catching herself, and remembering that that was probably a weird thing to do.

“Congratulations”, she said smiling up at him. “you did really well.”

“Thanks”, he responded. “Come on.” He took the umbrella and swung his arm across her shoulders. They started walking off of the field and Hermione couldn’t help but think of how much she liked him holding her like this.

“So tell me what happened this morning”, he said finally. Hermione sighed, remembering the conversation she had earlier with the headmaster and Professor McGonagall.

“Why don’t I just tell you later”, she answered. “You should e celebrating with your friends right now.” Draco gave looked at her.

“You promised.”

Hermione bit her lip. He looked really cute with his dripping wet hair flopping in his eyes.

“I know but, this should be a happy time for you”, she said. “The news will be the same whether I say it now or later. Besides, I should really get back to my own common room anyway. But I promise for real this time that later, I will tell you the whole story.”

There was silence for a moment as they approached the building doors. They stood under the archway, and Draco put the umbrella down, handing it back to Hermione.

“Fine”, he said finally. “I guess I’ll wait.”

Hermione smiled and suddenly remembered she still had on his scarf. Quickly she unwrapped it from her neck and threw it around his. She knew he had to go but she really didn’t want him to.

“I don’t have to go to the common room if you don’t want me to”, he said as if reading her mind. She laughed, trying to make it seem like she thought the idea was ridiculous.

“Don’t be silly”, she forced herself to say. “You’re the captain and you won them the game.  You have to go. Besides, I should go and talk to my friends too.”

“Are you sure?” She nodded, though she was not sure. Here he was offering to stay with her and she was declining. Though she didn’t like him like that anymore, one plus of going out with Ron was that they were in the same house. They had always been together. But with her and Draco, Hermione was finding it literally hard to even be around him.

“Yeah, we’ll catch up later”, she said finally.

“If you say so.”

Draco went to pull her into a hug but then remembered that he was drenched. Hermione laughed a bit and hugged him anyway. It didn’t matter that he was sopping wet, it was still nice. She felt like she could stay there forever but too soon she found him pulling away a little. Before she even knew what was happening he was kissing her, and she was kissing back. She felt content there, kissing him in his arms as the sound of rain falling filled her ears. It seemed like a fairytale moment.

His kisses were sweet and soft, but also asking for more at the same time. He wrapped his arms tighter around her and suddenly Hermione realized that they were just standing there making out.

Everything was wiped from her mind and all she could think about was enjoying the moment. Her sense of time flew out the window as she was washed in his scent.

Reluctantly Hermione took her lips away from his for air. She stared into his gray eyes and couldn’t help but blush. Even though they were officially dating, she still did a lot of that around him.

He leaned back against the brick doorway, never letting go of her so that she was still leaning on him. She rested her head on his chest and watched the rainfall. She didn’t want the moment to end and felt like staying right there for the rest of her life. He was amazing, not just at snogging, but it general. If someone told her three years ago that this would be happening, she would have laughed out loud. But now, she couldn’t imagine not being his girlfriend. She took a deep breath and sighed happily.

“I love you”, she heard someone say. It took her only a second to realize that that someone was her. Her eyes widened. She had no idea where that had come from. It was like all of a sudden it had just flown out, without her even having to think about it. Nervously she lifted her head to look at Draco.

He looked surprised, but not necessarily mad. Slowly he smiled and bent down to kiss her again. Hermione smiled too. She was glad he didn’t say it back. He didn’t have to. She realized that it was something she loved about him. He wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it and right now, she knew he probably didn’t love her. Just because she felt that way doesn’t mean he would, and she was okay with that. The point is that he liked her a lot, and at the moment that was good enough.

She pulled away from him again.

“You should go”, she said quietly, looking into his eyes.

“Okay.” He rubbed his thumb across her bottom lip before opening the door for her. She walked in and waved goodbye as he headed off in another direction.

She couldn’t help but feel a little giddy as she practically skipped to the Gryffindor common room.*
