Dramione: Hermione + Draco

         The Untold Story

Hermione entered the Gryffindor common room quietly, hoping that everyone was away sulking in their own rooms over their loss. Of course, she was not that lucky. As she walked in every pair of eyes turned to her. It seemed like the whole house was there, and she had just interrupted a conversation.

“Where were you”, Lavender asked as Hermione made her way into the room.

“Oh, I was just…I just had to talk to someone”, she answered, blushing at the thought of what she had really been doing. Lavender frowned as if she did not believe the girl, but didn’t pester her any further. Hermione noticed Harry slouching on the couch, and hurried over to him. He looked completely defeated, as f he couldn’t quite believe that he had lost. Hermione was unsure of what to say, since she suspected he knew exactly where she had been, so decided to just say nothing at all.

Everyone was silent and Hermione looked around to see many disappointed faces. This was not exactly how they had all planned to start off the year.

“This sucks”, Ron said suddenly, and Hermione just then realized that he was across the room. He walked over to them. “Since when did Slytherin become halfway decent at Quidditch?”

There were murmurs of agreement as Rons outburst caused others to speak up to. Hermione but her lips as other started talking. She had never thought that the Slytherins were bad at quidditch per say, though they were known for using sleazy methods to get he maximum of their points in the past. Still they had never been bad, especially Draco, just never good enough to beat Gryffindor.

“You know they are going to be rubbing this in our faces for the rest of our lives, right”, Dean added sighing. There were louder murmurs of agreement.

“Yeah, they think that just because they won once, they are oh so much better than us”, a third year, new to the team, added. “You should have heard the taunting they were doing as I was coming back in. It was bloody ridiculous.”

“They are never going to let this go, especially Malfoy.” Hermione tensed. Her housemates seemed to be getting pretty angry and she really didn’t want to be stuck listening to this. Sure, she was really sad that her friends had lost, but at the same time she was happy for Draco. She stifled a sigh.

“Stupid Malfoy. Gosh, I can’t believe he caught that snitch, probably put a hex on it or something. Only God knows what no good trickery he learned, being a death eater and all.” Hermione frowned as she realized what someone had said. She had hardly been paying attention but now people were agreeing and adding other things.

“Who said that”, she spat, stepping forward. She was not happy. It was unusual for her housemates to be this cruel after a loss. There was a stunned silence after she spoke up so she stepped forward a bit more.

“Well”, she asked angrily. Still no one spoke up. “If you can say something so awful then at least you can own up to it.” There were a few more seconds of silence.

Hermione could see Ginny giving her a ‘calm down’ type of look, from across the room. She decided to ignore it.

“I did”, Sam spoke up, a seventh year boy who was on the team. Hermione frowned at him. She wasn’t really his friend, but she did know that he used to get picked on a lot by a couple of Slytherins during his early years, so it would be assumed it didn’t like them.

“Well why”, she asked, surprised. As far as she knew the guy was pretty nice. He shrugged.

“Because it’s true”, he answered simply. Hermione felt anger rising in her chest. “We both know it could happen. What’s the big deal?” Hermione was caught off guard by the question as everyone waited for an answer.

“Well”, she said quietly, straightening up. “It’s just that we really shouldn’t be so sore about losing, especially when it means doing petty things like bashing the other team…or another player. And besides, it’s not like it’s all that unbelievable that Dra-Malfoy could catch the snitch before Harry. After all, he did it, didn’t he?”

There was more silence as she finished. This was not what she had been expecting. She had been hoping for some head nods of agreement, not just a bunch of shocked eyes staring at her. She swallowed, nervously looking around. Why couldn’t her housemates see reason?

“Yeah, it is unbelievable actually”, Sam countered. “Everyone knows that Malfoys a cheating good for nothing git who bought his way onto the team, in the first place.”

“Well its not like he paid to get the snitch”, Hermione said raising her voice. “Obviously he has to be skilled if he caught it after all, fair and square.”

Everyone watched in silence as the two went back and forth.

“That’s if he even caught it ‘fair and square’ in the first place.”

“How can you say that!?”

“Hmm, let me think about it”, Sam said pretending to think really hard. “Oh yeah! He hasn’t caught the snitch before Harry…..um ever!!”

“Well he did today”, Hermione said, her voice full of sass. She realized that they were yelling at each other as everyone gasped at her last statement.

“Exactly”, Sam exclaimed. “Unless he somehow got some godly power, I’m pretty sure he cheated. Everyone knows that Harry is one thousand times better than Malfoy will ever be.”

“How can you say that if Slytherin won the game?!”

“Because it’s fact.”

“Oh really”, Hermione yelled. Everyones eyes followed her as she stormed over to the exit.

“Well, here’s another fact for ya”, she yelled sarcastically. “Turns out Draco may very well be better than Harry because I don’t know when the last time you checked the scoreboard was, but Slytherin won! Draco caught the snitch, Harry didn’t, end of story!”

She pushed open the portrait and stormed away, slamming it behind her. As she walked quickly through the halls, she realized she had called Draco by his first name. She didn’t really care though. At the moment, she didn’t care what any of them thought. She quickly raced down flights of stairs, remembering the way to the Slytherin common room. Ron and Harry had told her where it was years ago, but she tried not to think of them as she raced over to the stone wall concealing the common room. Surprisingly, Ariell was standing outside of it, and turned when she saw Hermione racing over. Hermione noticed that Ariell was concealing some alcoholic beverages underneath her cloak, but decided to ignore it.

She found it extremely lucky that the dark haired Slytherin was always around when she needed her.

“Can I go in with you”, Hermione asked, dabbing at the tear that had formed at the corner of her eye. She rolled her eyes, angry that she was near to breaking out in tears. Everything had gone wrong lately. First she was slapping other students, resulting in her head girl duties being revoked and her possibly of facing long term suspension, and now she was snapping at her own housemates.

The Slytherin girl frowned at her.

“You know, just because you’re dating Draco and all, doesn’t mean that you can just show up whenever you want to”, she said icily. “Not everyone is going to be as…supportive as I am.”

Hermione frowned. She would hardly call the girl supportive seeing as how she was pretty much telling Hermione to go away.

“How did you find us anyway”, Ariell asked. “We are the most hidden common room in the whole school.” Hermione shrugged.

“I have my ways”, she answered simply. “Please let me in though.” Ariell sighed as if the thought were physically wearing her out.

“Fine”, she answered finally. “If you have the brain to not only find out how to get here, but to also manage to navigate here without getting hopelessly lost, then I suppose I can let you in.” Hermione smiled.

“Besides”, Ariell said facing the stone wall in front of her. “For reasons unknown, you make him really happy.” Hermione couldn’t help but smile even wider. Ariell had said it very quietly, but it could still be heard. Her stomach did a jump as Ariell said the password, and the two walked in.
